With 20,000 attendees expected at two outrageous and challenging events, British Berry Growers are seeing opportunities … in the mud.

The body that represents the majority of berries in the UK will be one of the big promoters at Tough Mudder competitions, providing a well-positioned link between healthy eating and exercise.

British Berry Growers will dish out some 30,000 strawberries outside the mud-laden obstacle courses in Manchester on 15-16 July, and London South on 23-24 September.

“We are excited to provide Tough Mudder participants with a taste of the delicious berries our growers produce,” said Nick Marston, chairman of British Berry Growers. “Berries are big business, but supporting local growers is of the utmost importance to us. We hope this partnership will encourage the public to enjoy fresh British berries and all their health benefits, supporting our farmers in the process.”

Boasting £1.7 billion in year-round retail sales, strawberries offer the perfect treat to cap a tough day in the mud. Stocked with antioxidants and vitamins, they are an ideal complement to those looking for a balanced snack. This year’s crop is said to be extra sweet thanks to “a cooler spring and extended ripening period.”

Participants won’t have to look hard to find the group and those delicious berries: a 10-foot tall inflatable strawberry will be featured at both events.
