The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a notice seeking comments in relation to importing potato tubers from the UK.

The British government has asked APHIS to authorise the importation of potato tubers for consumption in continental US.

APHIS has drafted a pest risk assessment listing the potential pests “likely to remain on the commodity upon importation if no mitigations are applied.”

Before APHIS identifies any pest mitigations and creates the official rules, it wants to hear if stakeholders have information that could lead to a revision of the draft assessment.

There is now a 60 day period for review and comment on the draft pest risk assessment for potato tubers which can be viewed on the APHIS website.
