Discount retailer Aldi is doublling the number of stores in its trial phase with Deliveroo, after extending its delivery area to new locations in London while branching out this week in Greater Manchester and Cambridge for the first time.

With the 11 new supermarkets being added to the eight that were first launched in Nottinghamshire in May and Camden in June, the retailer can be able to deliver 200 of its essential groceries online and have them delivered to customers iin as little as 30 minutes.

“Even as many lockdown restrictions are lifted, we’re aware that there are still many people who are shielding and would like to shop at Aldi but can’t,” says Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK. “In extending this trial further, we are making it even easier for thousands more people in different parts of the country to get hold of great quality food at Aldi’s unbeatable prices.”

The latest stores to join the trial are:

  • Kilburn
  • Tottenham
  • North Finchley
  • Histon Rd, Cambridge
  • Manchester Ancoats
  • Manchester Arndale
  • Didsbury
  • Trafford
  • Altrincham
  • Balham
  • Archway, London

Aldi says if it is successful, the Deliveroo service could be rolled out across more stores in other towns and cities across the UK before the end of the year.

“We are pleased that Aldi is extending its current trial with Deliveroo,” Ajay Lakhwani, Vice President of New Business, Deliveroo said. “We want to play our role in making sure households have access to everything they need and want during COVID-19. This expansion is fantastic news for our customers.”
