Compagnie Fruitière’s new ripening facility plans come to fruition in London

Compagnie Fruitière UK, a leading supplier and ripener of bananas to the UK market place, is delighted to announce an exciting new development for the company – the opening of a brand-new ripening centre.

The facility will be built at DP World London Gateway’s Logistics Park, adjacent to DP World London Gateway port and will replace Compagnie Fruitière’s existing operation in Dartford. Its new port side location will help deliver the optimum supply chain, driving efficiency within the ripening process and using technology to help future-proof the business.

The build of the new site will get underway through 2020, with the goal of being fully operational in 2021. “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with DP World to deliver this exciting project and embark on the next stage of our journey at Compagnie Fruitière UK,” says Keith Sadler, Compagnie Fruitière’s Managing Director.  “The location of the site at port, combined with the use of technology to deliver efficiency and enhance freshness, will strengthen our reputation for excellent quality and service with our customers.”

Within two years Compagnie Fruitière will be part of the UK’s most integrated logistics hub at DP World London Gateway, which comprises a state-of-the-art deep-sea port and rail terminal on an expansive land bank.

Compagnie Fruitière is a leading ripener of bananas and supplier of fruit across Europe, as well as a major producer of fruit in the Africa-Caribbean-Pacific region, specialising in the production, transport and distribution particularly of bananas and pineapples and but also a range of other fruit.

The integrated handling of the entire supply chain, from production to distribution, gives it unique operational efficiency, as well as total control over the quality and taste of the products it distributes.

Compagnie Fruitière implements a responsible approach which guarantees the sustainability of its activities and it has a proactive policy that includes respect for workers and the environment in all the countries it operates.

DP World London Gateway is the UK’s most integrated logistics facility, a state-of-the-art deep-sea port located on the same site as one of Europe’s largest sites for the development of ancillary logistics services, including distribution centres and warehouses.

The semi-automated terminal opened in November 2013 and currently comprises three deep-water berths, all capable of handling the world’s largest container ships, plus the UK’s longest rail terminal, capable of connecting the UK to national and international rail hubs.

The Logistics Park is 9.25million sq ft of space for the development of warehouse and distribution operations. Its location is unmatched for proximity to UK consumer markets and world-class port and rail infrastructure.
