Strikes over wage negotiations at two Berlin airports have led to flight cancellations and delays today, disrupting the transit of visitors to the world’s largest produce trade fair Fruit Logistica.

Ground handlers Forum Berlin-Brandenburg spokesperson Tim Alexandrin told Fresh Fruit Portal the strikes took place at Berlin-Tegel and Berlin-Schönefeld airports, in anticipation of a fourth round of wage negotiations due to take place later this week.

“Both airports had disruptions in their operations, and with the exception of long flights like from the U.S. all flights were cancelled or delayed from 5am to 11am,” Alexandrin said.

“Now operations are going to start again. What we expect is that by this evening the flight plan should be recovered, but so far passengers have had to be aware of some delays due to changes in the schedule.”
