Historic Borough Market on Friday announced it is implementing a phone ordering service before Christmas that will provide customers with free next day delivery as long as they are located within 30 miles of London.

The market says the telephone service team will be available to "discuss food options with customers, check stock and hand pick their grocery shopping from the wide range of fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and fish," among other items from its traders. Customers can either pick up the bags at the market or have them delivered within the M25 zone. It is available Wednesday through Saturday.

Borough Market’s produce price will be the same as traders would usually charge, and its Trust will cover all other costs, including packing and delivery.

“As a charity, Borough Market is doing all we can to help both our independent traders and our customers through this most challenging of years," Darren Henaghan, Managing Director, Borough Market said. "Our responsibility is to first and foremost support our community rather than grow our profits – and this is more important than ever at the moment."

Because of it being outdoors, Borough Market has remained open through the pandemic. Still, there are many customers who simply either can't get into London or have other reasons for not making the trip.

“We know that our valued customers love coming to the Market and have a good chat with these expert traders, and many are unable to do so at the moment," Henaghan says. "So we’re offering the next best thing – a friendly voice on the end of the phone who can provide that personal contact and shop for you, making sure that you can still enjoy the best food and drink from all of our wonderful stallholders.”

Borough Market will be open fot trade every day from 23rd November until Christmas Eve. It also will be extending its hours after Dec. 3 until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Measures are in place to make shopping at the Market as safe and stress-free as possible.

"Deep down our traders simply want to continue with their businesses - providing high quality food and drink to customers," Henaghan said.

The market offers internet-based delivery and collection service, Borough Market Online, for customers to access produce either by click and collect or via a doorstep drop delivery service, now extended for those within a 10-mile radius.
